My Approach to Counselling (Counselling Methodology):


Well, by the name of this site you guessed I assume a Holistic approach and personally prefer to work with what is today called Mindfullness based therapies.

The foundation for my work, comes from
MiCBT Mindfulness integrated Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or how it was previously called MCBT -Mindfulness based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy).

Mindfulness integrated Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (MiCBT) is a proven method for counselling, which utilizes Eastern philosophy techniques, mainly originated from Buddhist Psychology, applied to a result-measurable therapeutic method.

The use of Eastern philosophy techniques applied to therapy is not something new, it has been used in the past by some of the most prestigious forefathers of the psychological knowledge like Carl Jung and others. Meditation also has been recently studied and accepted in the west as a valid therapeutic process.

The approach is to offer you new life skills, by integrating this reality of mindfulness to a more creative way to deal with life challenges.

By using Mindfulness integrated Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (MiCBT or simply MCBT) we aim to achieve greater objectivity and acceptance of life experiences and circumstances.

Mindfulness integrated Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (MiCBT / MCBT) is a method by which life transformation and healing is constantly increased by your awareness of internal and external stimuli.

Mindfulness can be understood as a high level of awareness activating the natural healing processes of human beings.

Mindfulness integrated Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (MiCBT or simply MCBT) used to be called Mindfulness based Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, which in reality is the same thing. It is just a choice of name.

In short MiCBT brings together, in a a holistic maner, eastern and western tehniques.Mindfulness comes into the counslling framework generating a more expansive awareness of the present moment, and promoting greater acceptance and capacity for change. This way you are more empowered to face life’s challanges.

There is a good deal of misunderstanding about counselling, and I'll try to explain from my point of view, what counselling is about, without jargon.

My Understanding of the Counselling Definition:


Counselling is a short term practice (a few sessions) that deals with the individual and the interactions one has with life and people in a practical way.
This includes for example: Understanding yourself, Personal Relationships, Family Relations, Parent / Children Relations etc.

Mindfulness integrated Counselling focus on opening up to possibilities that were just "not there" before.
It helps you understand and increase your awareness and acceptance, reducing the distance between what you want it to be, and reality.

Mindfulness integrated Counselling provides a framework to enhance personal life, relationships, work / life balance and creating a more harmonious living.

Understanding
Respect
and Confidentiality
are among others, the main principles of counselling as I see it.

By participating in the mindfulness based counselling process you could expect results like
Clarifying, Motivating and finding strategies for a better & more fulfilling life.

When should I seek Counselling?

My short answer to this question is:

Seek a professionally trained and accredited Counsellor when the dialogue between you and yourself is not creating the results and alternatives you want ! It means whenever you would benefit from being in touch with your innermost self and discussing something of importance with someone you can trust. When your personal life or your relationship needs enhancing, improving, and revitalising. Finally mindfulness counselling is very helpful when life becomes complicated and you have no answers.

Of course this is a simple way of looking at it, you're not here for a course in Counselling, you just want some answers...

As a Counsellor, I listen carefully to what you have to say, your concerns, doubts, and issues that you bring to the session. Together we aim to put it all together, in a mindful way:

Thoughts, Feelings, Behaviours and Objectives, what I call the "essentials of life".

During the sessions you will also, develop a system of integrating mindfulness exercises into your daily life.

You are in charge!



People should seek counselling when they need it and for how long they need it.
During counselling, you choose whether to continue or stop your sessions.(no minimum sessions!)

If you believe you want to stop your counselling sessions, with or without reason, at any time you are free to do so.
(please advise the counsellor prior to your next session about your decision.)

How much do you charge per session?



My base fee for the initial session is $85.00 per hour.
Multiple following sessions, as required, have their price based on the first session unless agreed otherwise during the first session.

Special Discount available for pensioners and low income earners.

NOTE: At this point in time, there is no Medicare rebate available for counselling. Counselling associations like QCA, and PACFA are discussing the subject with federal government about this possibility.
