What is Astrology ?
It is a huge misconception to think that Astrology studies the stars.
But it happens because Astronomy, as the science we know today, didn't exist before the 18th Century. Astrologers were then in charge of understanding the heavens, but with the sole purpose of understanding life on our beautiful blue planet we call Earth.
Don't get me wrong, I like Astronomy a lot, I own a telescope and bravely face the very cold nights outside to marvel with the beauty of the universe. But it is important to explain the definition of Astrology, so people understand what this misconception is about.

Astrology Definition:
Astrology studies people, also Astrology studies life on Earth.
Astrology studies the correlation between the universe and life as we understand it on this planet. Astrology's main concern is how to better understand our lives; being it by relating to external events or understanding ourselves.
This is my definition of Astrology - I cannot speak for the Astrologers' community. There are some Astrologers who do not understand this definition and want to attribute more to Astrology than it actually is.
In short, and in relation to human beings, Astrology has had for millennia the same role Psychology has up to this moment.
Psychology initially had some misunderstandings about the human nature, the same happened to Astrology. A strong debate came to be where nature or nurture alone would completely explain who we are. This nature versus nurture debate became obsessive to the extreme of ridiculous.
Psychology, desperate to prove itself, attributed in the 20th century, that all humans were born as a "blank sheet" and that we were the result of our process of growing up, in other words "nurture rules alone". Astrology got it wrong as well, saying, at the beginning, that everything was a result of the universe you were born in. Attributing all to nature, Astrology made a disfavour to itself, and many Astrologers instead of questioning themselves went on bragging in defence of "Nature as cause for our being".
Well, the Nature or Nurture debate is dead. There are some people who have never been informed about this until today. For those of you who still think this way, please do your own research on the internet or books...
Astrology contributes to understanding human beings by providing the understanding of the "Nature part of the individual" the part of us that came to be by birth. Astrology provides us with a psychological framework, that is our preferred way of living life, to which Nurture will provide the learning processes to develop on top of this base framework.
Astrology and mainly an Astrological Birth Chart is a tool to better understand ourselves. It offers an opportunity for people to understand themselves better with a traditional, closer to nature point of view.
As the great Carl Jung (1875-1961) said: "Astrology is Psychology's knowledge of the ancient civilisations". (it is worth a visit to Carl Jung's page on Wikipedia)
We lost contact with nature and how life evolves in nature. We, as human beings, have been pressured by the wrong notion that if we don't get a particular result is because we did not fight enough for it. This is the cause of suffering for many people.
